Club Founded The Wellesley Hills Golf Club

In 1897, a nine-hole course was built on the Abbott Estate, but there was no clubhouse for those calling themselves the "Wellesley Hills Golf Club." Many of these same players joined together in June of 1910 to execute a lease with the Town of Wellesley and thus began the legacy of Wellesley Country Club.

Notable Players Francis Ouimet & Arnold Palmer

Many golf greats, such as Arnold Palmer, have enjoyed Wellesley Country Club over the years, but no one as storied as Brookline native, Francis Ouimet. In 1913, Ouimet shot two practice rounds of 88 at WCC. One week later, he became the first amateur to win the U.S. Open.
